EVIDENCE
OF NOTHING
A fictional road document. America as set design.
The project began with a question about place. Not a specific location but a type of place. The American roadside as a constructed environment. Gas stations, parking lots, motel signage, power lines against flat sky. Architecture that nobody designed on purpose.
The visual framework draws from tradition. Deadpan framing. Flat, harsh midday light with no atmospheric romance. Slight telephoto compression that flattens depth and isolates structures against their surroundings. Color is built on a faded Ektachrome palette.
There is no narrative arc. No protagonists. No event. The document accumulates through repetition and geographic drift, the same structures appearing across different stretches of road, slightly different, none of them remarkable on their own.
The project is ongoing.
